The Cogels Park from 1978 is a small municipal park at Schoten, formerly being a garden to a house that disappeared in the war. Pyramids of cobblestones and ivy provide a geometric built soul spread out through the park. They contrast with the curvilinear organic arrangement of paths, shrub grouping, trees, ponds and lawn spaces. A sequence of enclosure, dense transition and openness create the same qualities as in private gardens. This was one of the main goals at the start, being adjacent to densely built areas. A rich diversity of shrubs, old trees and plant density on the edges create an unusual haven of peace and retreat in the heart of the park.
