The Bremweide Park from 1970, was created on a 46ha big junk yard at the outskirts of the Antwerp suburb of Deurne. Executed at a very low budget (€ 1,50 / m²) it had to become the greensward for the local population, concentrated in dense high rise apartment buildings. The trash was bulldozered together on large mounds, covered with soil and densely planted with native plant seedlings. Large sweeping lawns, openings, enclosures and big mounded areas combined with the total absence of organized pathways, lighting or park furniture create a great feeling of freedom and remoteness.
