  • The city of Kortrijk commissioned Wirtz International in 2000 with a Masterplan for the East part of Kortrijk, which was abandoned at that moment. It contains several plazas and parks. “Het Plein” is one of those parks.
After the Masterplan was finished and accepted, “Het Plein” was further developed and constructed in 2002. In 17th century, “Het Plein” was a military exercise point. The triangle form of the park remains from that period.

  • We restored this square with respect to the existing design of 3 alleys, leading to one central spot. A beautiful kiosk in the middle of the park, unfortunately destroyed after the war, has been replaced by a brick platform and a wooden tribune where people meet or have lunch. Fountains at the end of the alleys accentuate the triangular design, and reflect the sun and the clouds up to the canopies of the existing old trees, as well as to the gravel paths. A playground for children and seats make the park attractive for a mixed age public. The combination of the structure in relationship to the new design (water, podium, etc) gives a very fresh and young look to this park.
